The Natura 2000 area “Markgräfler Rheinebene from Neuenburg to Breisach” is a fauna-flora-habitat (FFH) area with a total area of 2,400 hectares and the two bird sanctuaries “Bremgarten” and “Rhine lowlands from Neuenburg to Breisach” with a total area of 4,500 hectares. It extends over the cities and municipalities of Breisach am Rhein, Buggingen, Eschbach, Hartheim am Rhein, Heitersheim and Neuenburg am Rhein in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald counties. There are a total of 212 FFH areas in Baden-Württemberg, which together with the bird protection areas are part of the European Natura 2000 network. For each Natura 2000 area, the regional councils work out a management plan in coordination with land users, associations and authorities.
The draft of the management plan for the Natura 2000 area “Markgräfler Rheinebene from Neuchâtel to Breisach” shows the results of the mapping of the protected FFH habitat types and FFH species as well as the protected bird species according to the bird protection guideline. It also contains goals and recommendations for their conservation and development.
The complete documents (text and maps) of the plan will be available on Monday, May 18, on the website of the Freiburg Regional Council at www.rp-freiburg.de in the “News” section.
