Christine Buchheit, born in Mannheim, studied German, history and ethnology at the Albert Ludwigs University in Freiburg after completing high school and studying abroad.
After various positions in press and public relations, including in Africa for the German school in Nairobi and the Federal Agency for Civic Education, she joined the senior civil service at the Federal Foreign Office in 2013. Among other things, she worked there as an attaché in the office of the Federal Foreign Minister and for the office of the Minister of State for Europe. Most recently, she was responsible for the topics of flight and migration in the Maghreb.
Christine Buchheit is married and has three children between the ages of 14 and 19. Lord Mayor Martin Horn congratulated Buchheit after the election in the municipal council: “I am very much looking forward to our cooperation with my mayoral colleagues. We can and will only master the great challenges of this time together. Looking back, I can already thank Mayor Gerda Stuchlik for an outstanding 24 years before she will be in two months
well-deserved retirement. “
