Freiburg: Change of direction at the Viticulture Institute Freiburg – Agriculture Minister Peter Hauk: “As an experienced expert, Bettina Frank-Renz will head the Viticulture Institute in the future.” – Farewell to Rolf Steiner in retirement

“With the appointment of Dr. Bettina Frank-Renz, as the new director of the institute, is a motivated and committed manager at the head of the renowned research institute. The head of the company since then, Dr. I would like to thank Rolf Steiner for his excellent work and wish him all the best for his well-deserved retirement, ”said the Minister for Rural Areas and Consumer Protection, Peter Hauk, today (February 18) in Freiburg. Dr. Bettina Frank-Renz, as director of the WBI Freiburg, succeeds Dr. Rolf Steiner and is the second woman to head an agricultural state institute in Baden-Württemberg. Dr. Rolf Steiner retired at the end of November 2020 after 16 years as director of the institute.

Dr. Since then, Bettina Frank-Renz has been the head of the lower agricultural authority at the Lörrach district office and was transferred to the Freiburg Wine Institute with effect from February 15, 2021.

“Miss Dr. Frank-Renz is following in the footsteps of her predecessor. Dr. Steiner has made a significant contribution to shaping the Freiburg Viticulture Institute since 2004 and set trendsetting impulses for the development of the research institute. A research institute with a state winery with a very diverse range of tasks and activities as well as a large international network awaits the new head of the institute. I wish her every success in her new and responsible position, ”said Minister Hauk.

The official change of staff with Agriculture Minister Peter Hauk took place today as a hybrid event with a small group of people on site and in parallel as an online event.

Background information:

Dr. Bettina Frank-Renz studied agricultural sciences from 2002 to 2007 at the University of Hohenheim with a subsequent doctorate.

She began her work in the agricultural administration at the Esslingen District Office and completed the agricultural traineeship with a focus on viticulture at the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald District Office.

Subsequently, Ms. Dr. Frank-Renz acquired her knowledge at the Ministry for Rural Areas and Consumer Protection. First she dealt with compensation payments and agri-environmental measures, then as a viticulture consultant exclusively with viticulture issues.

In 2016 she moved to the lower agricultural authority at the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district office, Breisach branch, as deputy head of department. Then Ms. Dr. Frank-Renz works as head of the lower agricultural authority at the Lörrach district office.
