CEO Marcel Thimm will take office on November 1st
Retire in 2022 – Board of Directors of Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau appoints Daniel Zeiler (48) as his successor
The chairman of the board, Marcel Thimm (62), will step down on November 1st
Retire in 2022. His successor at the head of the management team will be Daniel Zeiler (48), currently Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Kreissparkasse Tuttlingen.
The other board positions will continue to be occupied by Erich Greil (Deputy Chairman of the Board), Bernd Rigl and Lars Hopp.
In its meeting on December 17, 2021, the Board of Directors, chaired by Mayor Martin Horn, unanimously elected 48-year-old Daniel Zeiler to head the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau.
On November 1, 2022, he will take over the position of CEO. At this point in time, Marcel Thimm will retire after 23 years on the board and around 47 years in the savings bank organization.
Daniel Zeiler is an excellent savings bank specialist. He completed his training at the largest savings bank in Baden-Württemberg, Sparkasse Pforzheim Calw, and got to know all facets of the savings bank business. In addition to managerial roles in corporate banking and as managing director of the associated company there, he also performed executive board duties as a deputy member of the board. He is a graduate of the Management Academy of the Sparkasse Organization and has an MBA from the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
Since 2018 he has been on the board of the Kreissparkasse Tuttlingen, responsible for the areas of overall bank and risk management, which will also be part of his area of responsibility in Freiburg.
With this decision, Lord Mayor Martin Horn sees the course set for a smooth change in management and a continuation of the Sparkasse’s successful course: “With his extensive experience in corporate banking and overall bank management, Daniel Zeiler has ideal prerequisites for his new position at the helm of our Sparkasse. He is a team player and, thanks to his authentic and personable manner, will fit in very well with our board of directors. “
The Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau, with total assets of around 7.5 billion euros, is the largest savings bank in southern Baden and ranks 40th out of 370 nationwide Branch offices and self-service locations are represented across the board.
