For the second time, the Board of Trustees of the Freiburg Scientific Society has recognized a funding application as a “Horst-Freisler Project” due to its outstanding scientific quality and, in addition to approving the requested funding, rewarded it with an additional amount of money.

Dr. In her current research project, Judith Eckert examines the conditions for social advancement in democratic societies, with a special focus on social networks.
For this purpose, she is currently conducting an exploratory empirical study on social relationships relevant to advancement, including as part of a research internship with students of sociology, which is intended to serve as the basis for further theoretical and research structural considerations.
The planned research stay at the University of Pennsylvania / USA, supported by the Scientific Society of Freiburg, aims to establish contact with the internationally recognized expert in the fields of education, inequality and advancement research, Prof. Annette Lareau, and Dr. Eckert to expand and deepen the theoretical basis of their research.
After studying sociology, Judith Eckert worked at various research institutions in Germany and abroad, including the TU Darmstadt, the University of Georgia, Athens / USA and the University of California, Berkeley. In 2018 he completed his doctorate at the University of Freiburg with a thesis on “Society in Fear? On the theoretical-empirical criticism of a popular diagnosis of the times”. After teaching at the Universities of Duisburg-Essen and Freiburg, she now has her habilitation project at the Institute for Sociology of
University of Freiburg started.
With the award as a “Horst-Freisler-Projekt”, the Scientific Society of Freiburg gratefully recalls its long-standing member of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Horst Freisler, who left a generous legacy to society last year.
