Freiburg: 30 June to 5 July: 49th Freiburg Wine Festival – The Münsterplatz in Freiburg is dedicated to Baden wine for six days

From Thursday, June 30th to Tuesday, July 5th, the Freiburg Münsterplatz will be dedicated to Baden wine for six days: In close cooperation with the winegrowing companies in the Breisgau, on the Kaiserstuhl, in the Markgräflerland and around the Tuniberg, the Freiburg Wirtschaft organizes tourism and trade fairs GmbH & Co. KG (FWTM) the 49th Freiburg Wine Festival after a two-year Corona break. In ten different areas, over 50 regional businesses offer more than 400 wines and sparkling wines as well as various culinary specialties. This year, the Stiftungsweingut Freiburg will be represented at the wine festival for many years. Part of the proceeds from the sale of the wine glasses will be donated to the Münsterbauverein and Freiburg’s Ukrainian sister city, Lviv.

After the Freiburg Wine Festival could not take place in the past two years due to the corona pandemic, this year visitors can again look forward to a large selection of high-quality wines and sparkling wines as well as culinary specialties from all locations in southern Baden in front of the historic backdrop of the cathedral. The participating winegrowers will be divided into ten different areas: the Markgräfler wineries and winegrowers’ cooperatives, the Baden winegrowers’ cellar, the Freiburg wineries, the Batzenberg/Schönberg wineries, the Kaiserstuhl winegrowers’ cooperatives, the Pinot generation, the Tuniberger winegrowers’ cooperative, the Breisgau winegrowers’ cooperative, and the Freiburg Foundation Winery and the Alte Wache – House of Badische Weine GmbH. Various dishes are also offered in each area. The new restaurateurs are the Lichtblick restaurant, the Heiliggeist Stüble, the Schwab fishery, the Zum Bunten Onkel restaurant, the Das Blümchen restaurant and the Eismanufaktur from Freiburg, as well as the Hartmann butcher from Schallstadt and the Reichenbach butcher from the Glottertal.

The Freiburg Wine Festival will be opened on Thursday, June 30 at 6:00 p.m. in front of the historic department store by Mayor Stefan Breiter and FWTM Managing Director Hanna Böhme. Traditionally, the newly elected Baden wine sovereigns are presented to the public as part of the opening ceremony. This year, visitors will again be offered a varied music program at the Generation Pinot, the Alte Wache, the Stiftungsweingut and the Badischer Winzerkeller, which will be designed by various bands and DJs. Among others, Martin Mingres, kamida and Maria Kofler will perform with sax’n more.

“With the Freiburg Wine Festival, a piece of normality is returning to the heart of Freiburg. At the same time, we share the worries and fears of the citizens of our partner city Lviv and would like to send another sign of solidarity with the donation,” said Mayor Breiter.

With every wine glass that is sold at the Freiburg Wine Festival for 3 euros each, 10 cents are donated to the Münsterbauverein for the preservation of the Freiburg Minster and 40 cents to Freiburg’s partner city Lviv. In order to protect the environment, a bottle deposit of 1 euro has been charged on wine bottles at the Freiburg Wine Festival since 2019. The bottles can be handed in at all beverage stands so that the waiting times for the return are kept as short as possible.

The Freiburg Wine Festival is open on Thursday and Sunday to Tuesday from 5 p.m. to midnight and on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is free.
