Freiberg moves to the Brno “Kometa” team; Bičevskis and Galviņš extend their contracts

28-year-old Freibergs has spent the previous three seasons with Zlin’s “PSG Berani” team. Last season, he scored three goals and made 20 assists in 52 regular championship games, but in the “play-off” in two dues, the Latvian was left behind.

Before going to the Czech Republic, Freibergs spent the season in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) club “Dinamo” in Riga, where he scored one goal in 38 games and made five assists. Prior to that, he played in North America for seven seasons.

Prior to joining Dinamo, Freibergs represented Toledo Walleye of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) in the 2015/2016 season, but had previously played in Ontario’s Reign. He has also played five games in the American Hockey League (AHL) as part of the St. John’s IceCaps, marking two assists.

Freibergs has represented Latvia in five world championships and the 2014 Sochi Olympic Games. In Sochi, banned substances were found in his body, followed by two years of disqualification, so he could not continue his career in the National College Sports Association (NCAA) championship.

Meanwhile, his peer Bichevsky was part of Hradec Kralova’s Mountfield in the first half of the season, but was later hired by Mlada Boleslav. “Mountfield”, where Bičevskis started as a legionnaire last year, announced after the season that he would not continue cooperating with a Latvian.

Bichevsky missed points in seven games for Mountfield this season, but scored five goals and scored six assists in 36 duels in Mlada Boleslav. In Mountfield, he also competed in five IIHF Champions League games, scoring two goals.

Bichevsky joined the “Mountfield” ranks last August, until then playing only in Latvia. Since the 2011/2012 season, he has represented Riga’s “Dinamo”, in which he scored one goal and made five assists in 54 games in his last season.

In the Continental Hockey League (KHL), he has played 291 fights, scoring 18 goals and making 37 assists.

Bičevskis has represented the Latvian national team in three world championships.

Meanwhile, 34-year-old Galviņš scored two goals and made four assists in 47 doubles this season. In the championship league, he scored one result in nine matches, and also played three games in the Spengler Cup.

The Latvian defender “Ocelārži” joined the team at the end of September last year, but he started the season in the “Optibet” Hockey League team “Kurbads”, where he scored with three assists in five games. For him, this was his return to the Czech Republic, because he played in the highest league of this country even before the establishment of KHL in 2006/2007, representing the “Vsetin” team.

Before that, Galviņš played for three seasons in the KHL Latvian team Riga “Dinamo”. In KHL, including matches in Khanty-Mansiysk’s “Jugra”, Galviņš has scored 32 goals in 426 games and made 112 assists.

Galvins has also played in Hungarian, Swedish and Italian clubs during his career.

He has participated in 13 national championships and the 2010 Olympic Games.

“Ocelārži” took the second place in the regular championship last season, “Mlada Boleslav” was the fourth and “Kometa” – the sixth. The unit represented by the head has a ticket to next season’s IIHF Champions League tournament.

Brno and Tršinec units are two-time Czech champions, and “Ocelārži” won the title last year with Galviņi.
