There have been a great many reports of skidding or other emergencies due to slippery road surfaces in southern Norway today.
It has to be pulled
From all police districts comes the following:
This morning A car went over a cliff after driving off the road on Osterøy near Bergen. The driver escaped unhurt from the accident.
In the Bergsdalen hut area in Vaksdal, between Bergen and Voss, there is one tow truck deployed to pull cars up a hill and access from the E16 is blocked.
At Ørmen outside Fredrikstad a car went off the road at 17:00 – fortunately without injuries.
– There are difficult driving conditions, please drive carefully! Police District East warns Chirping.
Across the Oslofjord on the E18 at Holmestrand, A car ended up on the roof just before 6pm
– The driver had disembarked himself and was attended to by paramedics when we arrived. We have secured the scene of the damage, says fire chief Jardar Aftret i Vestfold Inter-municipal Fire Brigade.
Farevarsel
Even the train noticed the problems. Speed is slow on the Vestfold line and passengers should expect delays and adjustments.
– This is due to difficult, known weather conditions You.
– If you go out today, you need to consider how important that car trip is, because it will be difficult to drive. Rain freezing on the ground is nothing special. It will be a difficult transition period, says state meteorologist Rafael Escobar Løvdahl of the Meteorological Institute in Dagbladet.
Disappointing from forecasters: – Dusty space Christmas
The institute has issued a yellow ice danger warning for Oslo, parts of Viken and Innlandet, Rogaland, Vestland and Sunnmøre.
“From late Sunday afternoon there is a risk of ice due to the transition to mild weather and rain on cold ground. The precipitation begins as snow and eventually turns into rain”, reads the message.
Ground freezing
The institute asks people to use the spikes when out and about.
“Calculate the extra time for transportation and driving. Use the right tires and drive according to conditions. Check road signs (175.no),” they urge.
The affected regions have temperatures around freezing. It creates ideal conditions for, among other things hail.
– Locally, rain can freeze to the ground when it hits and driving conditions will be difficult. It will probably be worse inside, where it has been colder and it takes longer for it to become mild, Løvdahl colleague Magnus Haukeland explains to Dagbladet.
Løvdahl says there could be challenging weather conditions with rain in the coming days, even if there are sub-zero temperatures and ice on the ground. This means a smoother road.
