COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) —

As we do some clearing tonight, expect cold temperatures by early morning. Freeze and frost advisories are posted for most of the area. Cover the plants if they need protection.

FREEZE WARNINGS are in effect for most of Central Ohio, including the Columbus metro area. Temperatures are likely to dip to freezing or colder by early Monday morning, bringing an end to the growing season (and much of the autumn allergy season). FREEZE WATCHES are posted across North Central Ohio including Marion, Morrow, and Crawford Counties. FROST ADVISORIES are posted for Southern and Southwestern Ohio.Read More

The rest of the week is much warmer and we see some sunshine!

SUNDAY NIGHT: freeze warnings, mostly clear, low 33.

MONDAY: mostly sunny, warmer, high 62.

TUESDAY: mostly sunny, breezy, warmer, high 74.

WEDNESDAY: partly cloudy, breezy, high 73.

THURSDAY: partly to mostly cloudy, breezy, high 74.

FRIDAY: mostly cloudy, scattered showers possible, breezy, high 75.

SATURDAY: mostly cloudy, scattered showers, cooler, high 66.

SUNDAY: mainly overcast, rain and showers, high 67.

High pressure is building into the region and the clouds are beginning to break up. Overnight clearing will allow us to radiate away some heat, creating freeze and frost conditions. Sensitive plants will need to be protected, otherwise, this is likely the end of the growing season for much of the area. Temperatures will begin to recover on Monday, climbing into the lower 60s. High-pressure will continue to allow for clearing Monday night and sunshine on Tuesday. The wind will pick up Tuesday afternoon as the pressure gradient tightens on the backside of the high.

High-pressure continues to dominate the East Coast on Wednesday and Thursday. Ohio is on the western edge of the system with some gusty winds. That dome of high pressure fends off the incoming rain until Friday.

A cold front pushes into the state Friday and creates another chance for scattered showers. Lingering showers continue on Saturday and a new front brings in more rain on Sunday.
