Freeway from Ostrava to Frýdek-Místek free of charge? No! This is what the ministry said

The mayor of Ostrava-Nová Bělá, Lumír Bahr, is one of those who regularly comments on the topic of the fee and who – according to the city’s long-term lack of interest – used to be in regular contact with many transport ministers and repeatedly asked for meetings. It is therefore not surprising that when, as the first deputy, he now became the newly appointed representative of Ostrava for the KSČM, he was the first to be interested in this very topic. Be considering the situation on a narrow urban scale.

“Gentlemen, could the city not initiate the exemption of the two-kilometer toll in the city? From one part of the city to another on a toll highway? Plus with public transport? It’s a shame! We are the only ones in the country, “Bahr demanded.

A precedent would be set. Deputy Mayor for Transport Vladimír Cigánek, however, did not have good current news for him. “We have negotiated with the region, which is in contact with the Ministry of Transport. There was a promise from Prague that if it was a temporary step during the completion of the highway (Frýdek-Místek bypass – editor’s note), the Ministry is ready to negotiate the exemption of the motorway from Ostrava to Frýdek-Místek from the fee. However, the mayors of the surrounding municipalities made it clear that this was not a temporary but a permanent solution, “Cigánek commented on the situation.

However, the ministry did not agree to a permanent exemption from the fee. “It is not the only section in the country that is being sought to be removed. And according to the ministry, this would only set a precedent for other cases, “explained the deputy transport.

Mayor Tomáš Macura at least assured that the city will try to remove the curious and Bahrem’s two-kilometer section, although so far it has always fought with smaller villages to remove the entire highway.

Ostrava wants to initiate further negotiations in Prague in the coming months according to the time possibilities of the Minister. “But we probably won’t be able to remove the entire highway,” Macura prepared the region for the lights at the end of the tunnel to go out.
