The Freemason Museum Switzerland at Jupiterstrasse 40 in Bern, Switzerland, houses a unique collection of Masonic cultural assets from three centuries in Switzerland. It is dedicated to the history of ideas in international and Swiss Freemasonry.
There was already a large project for the Swiss Freemasonry Museum by the “House of Freemasons Foundation”.[[1] This foundation acquired the former Swisscom headquarters on Jupiterstr. 40 and after rebuilding, set up the house of the Freemasons therein. The Swiss Grand Lodge Alpina (SGLA) has had its headquarters on the 3rd floor since May 2013. The former Swisscom factory hall with 300 m² of space on the 2nd floor was intended for the museum right from the start. The museum company SGLA, founded in the same year[[2] took over the establishment, operation and development of the museum. The museum for Freemasons and their relatives and acquaintances was opened on March 21, 2017. The general public has been able to visit the museum since November 4, 2018.
The museum was able to be built and furnished thanks to donations and loans from Freemasons, lodges and the SGLA, as well as the willingness of many Masonic collectors and lodges to donate exhibits or make them available on loan.
An exhibition covering two thirds of the area introduces the international and Swiss history of Freemasonry and familiarizes you with its spiritual and ritual world and shows the impact of this global movement in many areas of public and cultural life.
A large projection shows images of Swiss lodges. A smaller part of the area is intended for events and special exhibitions. A sequence of mounted productions in the fully labeled exhibition allows visitors to directly encounter and engage with Freemasonry.
