The green mamba that escaped from a home in Tilburg on Monday evening has been found. Biologist Freek Vonk says via Instagram that the snake is doing well.
“The snake was not hypothermic, but alert and active,” Vonk writes. “She was able to drink enough water, and the animal is in very good health!”
The mamba was found behind a plaster wall in the house where she escaped. To reach the animal, the ceiling and plaster walls behind which the animal was hidden had to be demolished. The snake is now being housed by a snake expert.
Very poisonous
The owner of the green mamba discovered on Monday evening that he was missing the snake. He alerted the police, who then raised the alarm together with the municipality of Tilburg. The animal is very poisonous and a bite can have a bad outcome. People who saw the snake should immediately call 911 and not try to catch the animal.
Freek Vonk helped with the search, but he was not present at the supreme moment. “I have been involved the entire time, but unfortunately I could not be on site myself because I am in South Africa.”
