Freedom after the WSC semi-final run: I believe that one day I will be able to catch up with the great stars of the sprint

  • Ewa Swoboda took 4th place in the winter indoor world championships, now in Eugene she has again confirmed her aspirations to belong to the world’s elite
  • Jamaican players were in the lead in the semi-finals and they were also the main candidates for medals
  • The second part of the distance should definitely be improved, because when I saw the style of Elaine Thompson-Herah passing me at this stage of the run, it was really impressive – says Swoboda

In the qualifying rounds you got the time on July 11th, in the semi-finals it was August 11th. It shows that you have stabilized your form at a good level and it gives you hope for more?

I am mega happy. What I presented in the individual performance during the World Cup is very optimistic. Of course, there are a few more elements on which we will have to work harder with trainer Joanna Krupa. There is definitely the second part of the distance to improve, because when I saw the style of Elaine Thompson-Herah passing me at this stage of the race, it was really impressive. I am very happy that I could start in Eugene and had a chance to test myself against such great rivals. I saw where I am and I believe it could be better.

You had a great indoor season in winter, can you therefore say that you have made another step towards the world’s best?

It is true that it was an indoor season in my life, but you also have to remember that running is very different. The forty-meter difference between indoor and outdoor running distances changes a lot. But I’m not giving up, maybe someday I will be able to catch up with these great sprint stars.

In the individual 100 meter race, your performances in Eugene do not end there, because you will also start in the 4×100 meter relay race. What can the Polish team do?

This is a good question. I know where I am standing. I don’t know where the relay girls are standing, but I heard it looks pretty good. A training for changes has been planned for Tuesday and then we will have a full picture of the situation. I do not know yet in what line-up we will run. I hope it’s in my head, but for now I will not reveal it.
