Free Uber service announced for Miami-Dade County

Through an official statement, the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) reported on a temporary alliance with the company Uber, which will provide free service in the county in order to support to users who have been affected by the recent changes made to the public transportation service.

The changes are part of the Better Bus Network (BBN) program, which includes the addition of new routes and connections that seek to improve transportation service.

Uber’s support will consist of providing free service to people who used Metrobus routes affected by the changes. In this way, passengers will be able to use the application to take the same route they did by bus before the BBN.

The sections included in this support are old Route 135; 42 from the Opa-locka Tri-Rail station to the Douglas Road Metrorail station; the 104 along SW 88th St, SW 87th Ave, SW 104th St, SW 97th Ave, SW 112th St, SW 112th Ave and SW 104th St; as well as parts of former routes 2, 16 and Route E.

Likewise, officials confirmed that MetroConnect’s car-sharing service, which offers transportation to new bus stops, would expand to the northeast of the county, covering key routes such as Biscayne Blvd to the East; NW 183rd St heading North; Golden Glades to the West and NE 135th St to the South.

The objective of this service is to bring residents from their homes to the new Metrobus or Metrorail stops, and vice versa. To register for the service, you need to download the application or call 786-321-5842.
