The respiratory function test is performed on people who suffer from asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), respiratory allergies and pulmonary hypertension, among other diseases.
This year, care has been provided to 500 people in Health Centers that have the service.
This Thursday, October 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., free Spirometry tests will be carried out in the Tláhuac Forest
Within the framework of World Spirometry Day, which is commemorated on October 14, the Ministry of Health (SEDESA), through the Public Health Services of Mexico City and the Institute for the Care and Prevention of Addictions ( IAPA), reports that in 10 Health Centers of this agency, free testing is carried out for people who suffer from asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), respiratory allergies, work-related lung diseases and pulmonary hypertension.
Spirometry is a mechanical lung function test that allows measuring lung volumes and flows, that is, it measures how much air fits in the lungs and how much force the patient has to blow, the above to diagnose an obstructive respiratory disease.
Therefore, in addition to the service provided in Health Centers, on Thursday, October 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., IAPA medical staff will perform free Spirometry tests in two anti-smoking units installed in the Bosque de Tláhuac (Avenida La Turba S/N, Miguel Hidalgo neighborhood, Tláhuac Mayor’s Office). The objective is to evaluate the degree of physical dependence on nicotine or vapers, to help discourage consumption among users.
It is worth mentioning that if the results show low dependence, a brief intervention will be carried out; while, if the results are moderate or high dependence, the Spirometry diagnostic test will be performed. If warranted, the person can be referred for treatment to the Smoking Cessation Clinic of the General Hospital of Mexico or the specialized one that is closest to their home.
To perform this test, it is recommended to avoid the consumption of tobacco, vaping products and/or using a water pipe one hour before the test; do not consume intoxicants in the previous eight hours; do not perform vigorous exercise an hour before; and avoid wearing clothing that substantially restricts full expansion of the chest and abdomen.
The population without rights that has chronic respiratory diseases can undergo the study in 10 T-III Health Centers in Mexico City, distributed in the municipalities of Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, La Magdalena Contreras, Miguel Hidalgo, Milpa Alta, Tlalpan and Xochimilco. This year, 500 people have been served in these first-level units that have the service.
