‘Free self-tests for all households’ • French corona pass now also mandatory in catering

Tunisia’s government says it has vaccinated more than half a million citizens on Sunday. It was the first day that all residents over 40 were welcome to pop into vaccination sites for a shot, after the country had received 6 million doses from abroad.

Five months after the start of the vaccination campaign in the North African country, some 1.3 million Tunisians have now been fully vaccinated. The goal is to have half of the 11.6 million inhabitants vaccinated by October.

The slow pace of the vaccination campaign in Tunisia has recently sparked anti-government protests. There was also a lot of criticism of the overall approach to the pandemic. President Kais Saied therefore decided last week to fire Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi.

More than 610,000 infections have been detected in the country since the start of the corona outbreak. At least 20,000 people have died from the effects of the virus. Tunisia has one of the highest numbers of deaths from corona per capita in the world.
