Dresden – From the middle of the year, menstrual products will be available free of charge in public buildings in the Saxon capital. A corresponding city council decision was made in July 2021.

The dispensers are to be installed in town halls, administrative buildings, municipal schools and vocational schools, municipal museums, cultural and leisure facilities and municipal libraries.
They are also being considered in municipal public toilets and municipal sports facilities.
“We are pleased that the administration is now implementing the city council’s resolution for more gender equality. Publicly available period products are as essential for many people as toilet paper,” says city councilor Agnes Scharnetzky (37, Green).

Periods are not a luxury. On average, a menstruating person would spend around 20,000 euros in their lifetime on hygiene products, painkillers or new underwear.
The 37-year-old therefore emphasizes: “I am sure that there will be many people who will be happy to take advantage of this offer in appropriate situations.”
