Free Match Tickets for 537 Children During Christmas Holidays in Gothenburg

Open during the Christmas holidays, match tickets are offered free of charge

A total of 537 recreational children from 22 recreational centers open during the Christmas holidays in the Gothenburg area have signed up for the two free matches offered by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, organizer of the Junior WC. This is one of many investments to make ice hockey more accessible to everyone. The matches to which the students have been invited will be played at Frölundaborg on December 27 and 29.

– We wanted to bring our few students who we have in their spare time during the intervening days to something big and spectacular. An event that gives the students something to talk about at home, about how much fun it is in free time and going to hockey, says Tobias Fridlund, leisure teacher at Lerlyckeskolan.

Fanzone at Corner Gothia Towers at Korsvägen

For those who want to recharge before the matches, the Fanzone at the Corner restaurant in Gothia Towers is the perfect place. The Fanzone is open throughout the championship and, in addition to showing the matches, will also offer live entertainment by the band Lady Oh before Sweden’s matches.

– For us, it has been a matter of course to create a fan zone where both Gothenburg citizens and Hitresta can gather and recharge before the matches. And considering that many of the most attractive matches are already sold out, it feels extra fun that we can offer the opportunity to watch the JVM on our screens at Corner, says Lena Kallevik, Director of Restaurants, Event & Creative Content, Gothia Towers Swedish Trade Fair .

Next generation hockey culture – a seminar to create change
On January 3, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association invites you to a seminar as part of the Känslopucken project, where the focus is on improving hockey culture for future generations. One of the speakers during the seminar is Erik Granqvist, former elite hockey player and expert commentator on Viaplay, who has been lecturing on the subject for a long time and who published the book Inkilad earlier this year.

In addition to the above initiatives, to engage and include more, the following has also taken place as a step in creating a legacy after a major championship:

  • Accessibility training
Before the Junior World Cup, all 400 volunteers, all Junior World Cup staff and all involved staff at Got Event have completed an accessibility training together with Eddie Wheeler, expert in accessibility issues.
  • Sustainability certification
For the first time in ice hockey, a championship receives the certification Sustainable Event. This after a major joint investment in sustainability from all the organizations behind the Junior WC in Gothenburg.
  • Training of leaders
As part of the Känslopucken project, where the focus was on the adults who are responsible for creating safe environments where children and young people can thrive and develop, a training was carried out for local leaders with the aim of providing tools to create a decent culture. The training will continue to be carried out continuously every year.

The organizer of the junior WC in ice hockey 2024 is the Swedish Ice Hockey Association in close collaboration with Got Event, Göteborg & Co, Frölunda Hockey Club and the Gothenburg Ice Hockey Association.
