Free HPV vaccine for young adults at Utrecht Central Station

Young adults can get a free vaccine against the human papillomavirus (HPV) from Monday 5 to Saturday 10 June. This is possible at a temporary vaccination location of the GGD at Utrecht Central station.

The vaccination location can be found next to track 19 at Utrecht Central Station. From Monday to Friday, young adults can go from 12:00 to 20:00. Different times apply on Saturdays, namely from 09:00 to 17:00. The HPV vaccination applies to men and women born between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 2003. Those who want to get a free shot against the virus can register freely.

Protection against six types of cancer

The vaccination protects against the contagious human papillomavirus (HPV). In the Netherlands, an estimated 1,500 people get cancer due to HPV every year. This concerns about 1,100 women and 400 men. The vaccination protects against six types of cancer: in the mouth and throat, on the penis, anus, vagina, labia and cervix. For good protection, two vaccinations are required at least five months apart.

Since many Dutch young people have not yet been vaccinated against the virus, the GGDs and RIVM want to change that. With vaccination buses, pop-up locations and an information campaign, they want to give those who are not yet or partially vaccinated the opportunity to get vaccinated.

In addition to the temporary location at Utrecht Central Station, the GGD region of Utrecht offers the HPV vaccine at two other locations in the province: in Amersfoort and in Utrecht on Europalaan. More information can be found on this website.
