Close GGD Hollands Midden will open two new vaccination locations for HPV vaccination on Thursday. At Hogeschool Leiden on Zernikedreef and in student center Plexus of Leiden University on Kaiserstraat, students and non-students are vaccinated free of charge.
The HPV vaccination is for everyone aged 19 to 27 who has not yet been (fully) vaccinated against the human papillomavirus. This virus can cause cancer of the mouth and throat, anus, penis, vagina, labia and cervix. This year only, the HPV vaccination is free for young adults born between 1996 and 2003.
Summer vacation
The temporary vaccination location in Plexus is open until June 22, the one at the Hogeschool until June 29. “We hope that many young adults will come along for the HPV vaccination,” says Margreet Bekedam, vaccination manager at the GGD. “Time is running out. The HPV vaccination consists of two injections with a minimum of five months between them. Those who get the first injection before the summer holidays can also get the second injection for free this year. After 2023, the costs for HPV vaccination for this group will be for their own account.
