Free HPV Vaccination for Girls and Boys, Campaign Launched in Bucharest to Combat Cervical Cancer

The HPV vaccination is free for girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 19. For women aged 19 to 45, the vaccine is 50% reimbursed.

The University Hospital of Emergency in Bucharest started, today, a campaign to encourage vaccination against HPV.

Doctors draw attention to the fact that in Romania, every day, nine women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and six die from this disease, which can be cured if it is detected in time and properly treated.

The HPV vaccination is free for girls and boys between the ages of 11 and 19.

For women aged 19 to 45, the vaccine is 50% reimbursed. How can women who want to be vaccinated proceed, explains the head of the Obstetrics-Gynecology Clinic at the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital, professor Dr. Monica Cârstoiu.

Monica Cârstoiu: Any patient can come with a referral ticket from the family doctor to Gynecology. Also, prescribers for the HPV vaccine can be pediatricians or dermatologists.

Romania has the highest incidence of cervical cancer and the highest mortality caused by this disease in the European Union.
