Risk categories benefit from free flu vaccination. It is about people suffering from chronic diseases, the elderly and children. The free flu vaccination campaign takes place through family doctors’ offices and health facilities with beds and aims to reduce illnesses caused by seasonal flu.
The flu shot is the most effective way to protect against the flu, and some people can get the vaccine for free or partially reimbursed. The vaccine is recommended for all people, starting from the age of 6 months, but especially for those in risk groups, for whom it is also free.
PROF Doina Azoicai, Epidemiology Primary Physician:
“The Minister’s Order appeared related to the compensation of vaccines for certain categories of the population. It started with the compensation of the flu vaccine and there is a wide range of people who benefit from 100% or 50% free of charge for the flu vaccination and from January other vaccine preparations in various categories will be compensated, especially for chronic patients who need an additional protection.”
Family doctors will no longer receive vaccine doses in their offices, as was done in previous years. They must issue a prescription to patients receiving the free vaccine. With the prescription received from the family doctor, patients go to the pharmacy and pick up the vaccine.
Prof. Doina Azoicai, Epidemiology Primary Physician:
“Infectious diseases have not disappeared and will not disappear so easily and probably never. We must know how to keep them under control. If we can’t remove them completely, let’s keep them under control. Suffering should be as little as possible even if pathogens are very intelligent, flexible structures that want to resist.”
Depending on the pharmacy and the type of flu vaccine desired and recommended by the doctor, the price of a dose varies between 65 lei and 212 lei in the 2023-2024 flu season.
