Free Drive-Thru Flu Shot Events in San Antonio: Protect Yourself and Stay Healthy

SAN ANTONIO – University Health and Bexar County will offer free flu shots at four drive-thru events.

“We have seen an increase in respiratory viruses during the summer. The best defense against getting sick is to wash your hands frequently and stay up to date on your vaccines,” said Jason Bowling, director of hospital epidemiology at University Health.

The normal flu season runs from October to April, Bowling said, so now is a good time to protect yourself.

The flu is a contagious respiratory virus. Adults over 60, children and immunocompromised people are at higher risk of serious complications from the flu, experts say.

Through these drive-thru events, adults and children ages 6 months and older can get a flu shot without leaving their vehicle at four locations around the city.

Vaccines are free, but preregistration is required. People should visit the University Health website to register each person who receives the flu vaccine.

Drive-thru flu shots will be offered at the following community events:

Saturday, September 23, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm Freeman Coliseum, 3201 E. Houston Street Saturday, October 7, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm Southwest Independent School District, 11914 Dragon Lane Saturday, September 21 October, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm Dub Farris Athletic Complex, 8400 North Loop 1604 W Saturday, November 4, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm Gustafson Stadium, 7001 Culebra Road

COVID-19 vaccines will not be available at these drive-thru events.
