The Garut District Health Service, West Java has again opened a free COVID-19 vaccine service for the general public which will be implemented until the end of 2023 in order to maintain public health so that they are not easily attacked by the COVID-19 outbreak, which is currently seeing an increase in cases in other areas.
“This is for the first period, until December 31 2023, the next period there will be more supply,” said Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the Garut District Health Service, Asep Surahman, when contacted by journalists in Garut, Friday.

He said that the Garut Health Office received a supply of 500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from the West Java Provincial Government for people who had not received the vaccine so far.
That number of doses, he said, will be prioritized for elderly people and those aged 18 years and over, especially those who have comorbidities or are suffering from diseases.
“Preference is given to those who have comorbidities,” he said.
He said that the vaccination currently supplied to Garut is quite limited, so vaccination will be carried out on a priority basis so that those who receive the vaccine are not easily attacked by the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We have to first make sure we have been vaccinated or not, if not, especially those who are vulnerable, have comorbidities, pregnant women, let’s get vaccinated,” he said.
He explained that vaccination is an effort to fight the COVID-19 outbreak, especially now during the year-end holiday season, namely Christmas and New Year, which will see an increase in the mobilization of people.
He appealed to people who are sick with coughs and colds, especially those who have just returned from urban areas, to immediately check themselves at the local health center. If the result is that you have COVID-19, you must immediately undergo self-isolation at home for those with mild symptoms, and go to the hospital if your symptoms are severe.
“We urge those who are sick with coughs and colds, school children and employees to rest for three days, so as not to spread the infection,” he said.
He added that the COVID-19 cases in Garut are currently under control with no spike in positive COVID-19 cases. It was recorded that as of December 20 2023, only one resident who had just returned from abroad was detected positive for COVID-19.
“In Garut to date, only cases of Umrah pilgrims returning from Umrah were found positive at the airport, and we immediately followed up, they were healthy,” he said.
Meanwhile, the places designated to carry out vaccination activities are the Development Health Center, Pasundan Health Center, Limbangan Health Center, Pameungpeuk Health Center, and Tarogong Health Center.
