The owners of the carousel at Place du Bareuzai in Dijon (Côte-d’Or), destroyed by a fire on October 5, organized a distribution of free cotton candy on October 14 at the location of the carousel. An opportunity to thank the people of Dijon for their support.
For a day, the Place du Bareuzai will have regained color. Where, ten days later, the ground remains blackened by the fire which destroyed the carousel, the owners of the ride once again set down their bags for a free distribution of cotton candy.
“When the carousel was destroyed, it was a financial but above all a moral and sentimental loss.“, sighs Christelle Bailly, the owner. “And not just for us: for many Dijon residents too, and people from elsewhere, even internationally. This event today is a way to thank everyone who supported us.“
As a bonus, a large banner retracing the history of the carousel was also displayed on the square. A space has even been specially provided so that passing Dijon residents can write a message for the owners.

Instead of the carousel, an “orchestra” organ was installed in order to “recreate the atmosphere“. “When the music started playing it was very moving“, smiles Christelle Bailly. “It was exactly the same as the one on the carousel. At the first notes, my husband collapsed.“

The solution, however, remains temporary. The objective is to install a new carousel in place of the old one. “We will try to come back as soon as possible“, assures the owner, while specifying that”the difficulty is finding a carousel“.

As a reminder, the carousel fire occurred on the night of October 4 to 5, around 4:30 a.m. Firefighters dispatched to the scene were unable to save the building, which was completely destroyed by the flames. Street furniture, as well as furniture belonging to an adjacent restaurant, had also been damaged.
An investigation was immediately opened. According to the Dijon public prosecutor’s office, the possibility of a voluntary act was not excluded. As of this writing, the investigation is still ongoing.
