The summer cinema season ends in Alicante with its last screening in the Plaza de Argel. The event will be this Saturday at 9.30 pm, with the screening of ‘Mission Impossible: Death Sentence’. This concludes the five programmed sessions attended by more than 600 people in the squares of Gabriel Miró, Mercado Central, Doctor Gómez Ulla and Maestro Garberí.

With this number of attendees, the three summer film cycles programmed by Alicante City Council, from July to September, have brought together more than 1,424 people who have sat down to enjoy the cinema. The departments of Seniors, Culture and Strategic Plans and European Projects, led by councillors Nayma Beldjilali and Antonio Peral, have organised the sessions of more than twenty screenings of current films.

Within the sessions, a cycle aimed at the elderly was organised in July, carried out as ‘Movie Nights’ in the centres of Urbanova, Rabasa, Villafranqueza, Plaza de América, Ciudad de Asís and Virgen del Remedio, which was attended by more than 400 people. This initiative also had the objective of sharing with the family films for all audiences, among which the following stood out: ‘Que baje Dios y lo vea’, ‘Mummies’, ‘El gato con Botas: el último deseo’, ‘La vida Padre’ or ‘Vaya festivo’, among others.

The film programme ‘La Trasera’ has also been screened at the ‘Las Cigarreras’ centre every Friday in July, attended by 424 people. It features animated, fantasy, adventure and comedy films to share with the family. Titles such as ‘The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn’, ‘Isle of Dogs’, ‘Asterix and Obelix. Resistance of the Gods’ or ‘Mazinger Z Infinity’, among others, have been very popular and could be enjoyed this summer for free.

Councillor Nayma Beldjilali stressed that “it has been a very good initiative to bring a first-class leisure offer to the neighbourhoods, cultural centres and senior centres this summer with great attendance and response that supports the municipal commitment to offer current cinema in different public spaces, reaching more than a thousand people.”

For his part, Councillor Antonio Peral praised the programme, highlighting that “the result is exceptional, as it has brought cinema to different parts of our city to offer an open-air space that promotes cinema culture free of charge with current films, improving coexistence between neighbours with a very good response from the public.”
