Free and Social Netherlands votes party leader Filippini away after quarrel | NOW

A majority of the political party Vrij en Sociale Nederland (VSN) agreed on Saturday during a general meeting of members to expel party leader and party leader Bas Filippini. According to the party, almost three quarters of the members (73 percent) want him to leave.

Filippini was discredited after he had unsubscribed Anna Zeven, second on the list, without her knowledge at the Chamber of Commerce (KVK) and formed an interim board. “I did not resign as chairman,” Zeven responded. She insisted on keeping the democratically private electoral list intact.

Party leader Filippini also tried to remove Willem Engel, leader of Virus Truth, from the election list. Engel is in third place on the VSN candidate list. Many members then canceled their membership.

About 70 percent of the members wanted Engel to run for the party, but Filippini declined this request. A general meeting was then called.

It is still unclear whether Filippini will actually lose his place on the list. On Saturday, the Electoral Council ruled that he will remain on the candidate list and that Zeven will continue with a blank list. It is also not yet clear whether the deregistration from the Chamber of Commerce van Zeven will be canceled.

VSN is 1 of the 37 parties participating in the parliamentary elections in March. This is a post-war record.
