Free accommodation for cancer patients and relatives in Barcelona

Every year around 850 cancer patients from all over Spain move a Barcelona to receive treatment. For this reason, and in order to facilitate your stay in the city, the Barcelona Provincial Board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC-Catalunya Contra el Càncer) has launched a free hosting service temporary in Hotels for patients y relatives companions.

The initiative, launched thanks to the health insurance signed between the Association and the Barcelona Hotel Guildhas had as its first beneficiary Kilyanpatient of Lleida that, affected by a Hodgkin’s lymphomayou must go to your hospital in Barcelona between once and twice a week to receive treatment.

The service offers free temporary accommodation with all the mod cons and necessary requirements for the patient and/or their relatives: hygienerest spaces, single or double rooms –for the patient and the accompanying family member, or two family members from the same family unit–, adapted toiletsetc.

But not only does it provide financial assistancebut also flexibility, tranquility and, above all, an opportunity for patients who cannot bear this cost. And at the same time, highlights the AECC, “it guarantees the comfort of the patient and/or their relatives to be able to access the hospital more closely, avoid long journeys with a recent treatment and thus favor their quality of life».

As the AECC recalls, “a total of 24,942 Spaniardscancer is a serious aggravation to their previous socioeconomic situation, either because they are in unemploymentbe self-employed workers and/or have low income. This assumes that the 11% of people who have been diagnosed with cancer in Spain have a situation of socioeconomic risk at the time of diagnosis or it has generated this risk with its appearance.
