NRK profile Fredrik Solvang (44) is a guest in Friday’s broadcast of the popular talk show program «Lindmo».
An open and honest Solvang tells about a tough upbringing at Setermoen in Troms. He says that he felt alone as a child, partly because he looked different from the other children.
Actress Tinashe Williamson (36) is also a guest in Friday’s “Lindmo”. She is currently working on the book “Handbook for young anti-racists”, which is about everyday racism. In the book, Williamson tells stories from her childhood where she was subjected to gross, systematic racism, according to The online newspaper.
Solvang sheds tears when Williamson talks about the racism she has been exposed to.
The NRK presenter says that he has never been exposed to systematic racism.
– But as a brown child in a small place, you always know that you are. You are made very aware of it. For my part, I was really very alone, and I do not think it is completely good. I know that it has meant that it has taken me a very long time to reconcile myself with my own traits and live with the look I have, says Solvang, according to Nettavisen.
The 44-year-old says that it developed into self-loathing, and that it took several years to reconcile with his own appearance. Solvang has been adopted from South Korea, and when he was 16 years old he traveled to the country to meet his biological family.
– It is of course very strong, but probably the right thing I feel I have ever done and something I would not have been without. There were many pieces that fell into place. Being an adopted child is a special situation. You have family and friends who love you, but they can never fully understand. Seeing someone for the first time who looked like me was completely indescribable and very good, Solvang says during Friday’s “Lindmo” on NRK.
