The legend Kurt Hamrin has left us. One of Swedish football’s all-time greats has finished playing the game of his life.

During his amazing career Kurt Hamrin played 32 international matches for Sweden and scored 17 goals. He made a strong impression in the Swedish national team uniform.

– One of Swedish football’s greatest players has passed away. We remember Kurt Hamrin with warmth, gratitude and pride and he will always be an important part of our blue-yellow history. Kurt Hamrin was a ball artist whose qualities led to fantastic success, not least in the World Cup on home soil in 1958 when Sweden won silver. His move to Italy opened the door for the next generation of Swedish players in European football. Our thoughts go out to Kurt Hamrin’s family and those closest to the bereaved, says Fredrik Reinfeldt, chairman of the Swedish Football Association.

– Swedish football has a lot to thank Kurt Hamrin for. What I personally remember most and have seen over and over again in retrospect is his legendary goal against West Germany in the World Cup in 1958, says general secretary Andrea Möllerberg.

SvFF will plan for an honorable farewell to a national team player who had a great blue-yellow significance.

– The Swedish Football Association will honor “Kurre” for his great efforts in a dignified way. How and when we get to come back to. Right now, thoughts go to those closest to the bereaved, says Andrea Möllerberg.
