Olympic gold in team after deciding a gasping jump against the USA, Olympic silver individually, European Championship bronze, final winner in the money-tight Global Champions Tour and number one in the world rankings.
The latter is something he has fought for for several years after being second on several occasions.
– It has been a fantastic year, said Peder Fredricson when he secured the overall victory in GCT.
It would be even better.
He received the award as rider of the year at the International Equestrian Federation’s Fei gala on Wednesday night.
The other three nominees were dressage rider Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, Germany, Julia Krajewski, Germany, in the field competition and paradressy rider Lee Pearson, Great Britain.
But Fredricson pulled the longest straw – as in so much else he has done this year. The Swedish star was not at the gala, but says in a recorded speech of thanks:
– I am very, very happy, proud and honored.
