Frederik W. Mohn, heir to Trond Mohn, made a splash on Transocean shares in 2022.
A recent annual report for his investment company Perestroika shows that the investment company was left with a profit before tax of NOK 1.7 billion in 2022. In 2021, profit before tax ended at NOK 290 million.
In 2021, the financial items were added up to NOK 3.5 billion in the balance sheet, and by the end of the year, the corresponding item had reached NOK 5.2 billion.
Mohn has not responded to DN’s inquiry on Wednesday evening.
Fluctuations in drilling stocks
The holding of Transocean shares originates from the company Songa Offshore, which in 2017 was merged into Transocean. At that time, Mohn had a paper loss of the order of NOK 1.6 billion.
The merger made Mohn the largest shareholder, and within a year he saw his rig shares rise from NOK 2.8 billion to NOK 3.8 billion in value. At the top, he owned bonds worth NOK 2.7 billion, according to Finansavisen.
However, the Transocean share price crashed after this, reinforced by the corona pandemic, and was down to 20 cents per share in the autumn of 2020. This from a level of 14 dollars a share.
Mohn took advantage of the low price to buy into Transocean, which he continued to do in the spring of 2022. Last summer, he was on 83 million shares in the company, which he confirmed to Finansavisen that he was also on in February this year.
