A few weeks after the announcement of Hélène David’s choice not to run again in the October provincial elections, the Quebec Liberal Party (PLQ) has found someone who will try to replace her as MNA for Marguerite-Bourgeoys: the financier Frédéric Beauchemin.
The information, first reported by The Press Friday, was relayed by chef Dominique Anglade on her Facebook page a few hours later.
“Frédéric Beauchemin was seduced by the ECO project, which aims to invest $100 billion to create wealth in each of our regions by helping to fight against climate change and protect the environment,” says Ms. Anglade in the publication.
Frédéric Beauchemin was an executive and head of capital markets at Scotiabank. On Twitter, the Liberal candidate presents himself as a “businessman committed to the business community of Quebec”.
This will not be the first campaign for Mr. Beauchemin, who ran for the Liberal Party of Canada in the riding of Terrebonne in the 2019 federal election. He failed to dislodge Bloc Québécois Michel Boudrias , but still finished second and garnered 29.26% of the vote.
Vicky Michaud tries her luck again with the CAQ
Vicky Michaud will also try for a second time to be elected under the banner of the party of Francois Legault. She was presented with several other Montreal candidates from the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), during a press conference at the IGA stadium on Sunday.
“It’s official! I am so proud to have been announced alongside these high caliber candidates. A cohort so representative of the beautiful diversity of Montreal,” wrote Vicky Michaud in a Facebook post, a few hours after the event.
The director general of the Lac Saint-Louis Disabled People’s Club was a candidate in the 2018 elections for the CAQ in Marguerite-Bourgeoys, finishing second with 23.5% of the vote. The liberal Hélène David had easily won the election with more than 8,500 votes ahead of her rival, collecting 53.4% of the popular vote.
Before working in the community, Vicky Michaud got involved in municipal politics with Projet Montréal and the administration of the mayor of Lachine, Maja Vodanovic. She was also a journalist for the Courier Lachine-Dorvalbefore it was purchased by Métro Média.
The constituency of Marguerite-Bourgeoys is considered a liberal castle. LaSalle voters have remained loyal to this party since the creation of the riding, which coincides with the election of Marie-Claire Kirkland-Casgrain in 1966.
