Freddie Mercury’s Rolls-Royce auctioned for more than 3 tons, money goes to Ukraine | Music

A 1974 Rolls-Royce, which belonged to Queen singer Freddie Mercury, sold at auction in London on Saturday for £ 286,250 (more than € 325,000). The money will go to a Ukrainian foundation that is working to build a hospital in the city of Lviv in western Ukraine.

It’s a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. The British pop idol bought the car in 1979. The singer allowed himself to drive it, because he didn’t have a driver’s license. After Mercury’s death in 1991, the vehicle came into the possession of her sister Kashmira, who sold the car in 2013. She got just over 85,000 euros for it.

The last known owner is the Ukrainian comedian, actor and singer Andriy Danylko, better known by his stage name Verka Serduchka. He actually wanted to donate the car to a Queen museum or add it to a major exhibition in Ukraine, but ultimately decided to make the car available for a good cause in his home country.

Auction house RM Sotheby’s, which did not charge fees and commissions, did not disclose the buyer’s name. The auction house had assumed a profit of between 20,000 and 30,000 pounds.
