“Freddie Mercury Relics Up For Auction: Crown, Cape, and Rare Artifacts”

Freddie Mercury died in 1991 and inherited his London home to Mary Austin, his ex-partner who remained his friend when he confessed to her that he was gay. The house keeps 1,500 objects, which include everything from a comb to paintings valued in millions.

Freddie Mercury’s relics will be exhibited at London, New York, Los Angeles and Hong Kong. Afterwards, they will be auctioned off and the proceeds will be donated, in part, to the Mercury Phoenix Trust and the Elton John Aids Foundation.

According to Mary Austin, it is time to get rid of the British artist’s objects to close a chapter in her life and start a new stage.

The ex-partner and friend of the Queen vocalist appreciates objects. “Freddie was an amazing and intelligent collector who showed us that there is beauty, fun and conversation in everything.. I hope that the exhibitions and auctions are an opportunity to share their facets”.

The house, where the relics are kept, is known as Garden Lodge, in London. Mary Austin kept the objects intact since the artist’s death.

Up for auction will be the gold crown and red cape of velvet, faux fur and jewels that Freddie Mercury wore at his debut at Knebworth, a 1986.

The crown is a replica of that of San Eduardo, which will be used by the king charles in his next coronation to the throne.

Another of the valuable objects is a painting by the French painter Tissotvalued at half a million dollars. The singer acquired it before his death.

In the auction there will also be manuscripts of their works for the songs We Are The Champions y Killer Queen.

Other objects of less value, but highly valued by the singer, are a comb for his mustache, a telephone and even napkins.

The goal of the auction is to raise about USD 7 million. Part of this amount will go to organizations for the Mercury Phoenix Trust and the Elton John Aids Foundation.
