Jakarta –
After five years, the story is over Fred and Manchester United. The Brazilian midfielder was officially released by the Red Devils Fenerbahce.
“A tenacious and energetic player, Fred was able to play as an attacking midfielder or defensive midfielder at MU and became a popular figure in the eyes of supporters because of his commitment,” read the club’s official statement, Sunday (13/8/2023).
“The 30-year-old left many positive memories during his time at Old Trafford, being such a popular figure as a player and a person. Everyone at the club wishes Fred every success for the future,” the statement concluded.
Fred has left for Istanbul since Saturday (12/8) to complete his transfer. He has also completed medical tests and is just waiting for his work permit to be issued.
The Athletic reports Fred was bought by Fenerbahce for 10 million Euros plus add-ons worth 5 million Euros. Signals of his departure have appeared since he was not taken on the pre-season tour to the United States for personal reasons.
Fred left MU with a record of 213 appearances and 14 goals since 2018. He contributed one trophy to the Red Devils, namely the English League Cup which he won last season.
