(ANSA) – TURIN, 14 NOV – The technical investigations ordered by the Ivrea prosecutor’s office began today in Volpiano (Turin) on the carcass of the Freccia Tricolore which crashed near Caselle airport on 16 September 2023, causing the death of one 5 year old girl. In particular, the opening of the engine was carried out in the presence of the specialists appointed by the parties involved. The investigation will continue tomorrow. One of the hypotheses is that the aircraft failed due to the impact with a bird (a phenomenon known as ‘bird strike’) immediately after take-off from the airport: the first investigations were carried out by examining the slit from the outside and given a negative outcome, but internal analysis could reverse the situation. The consultancy was ordered last March 5 but the operation, despite repeated requests from Ivrea prosecutors, could only begin today because, as has emerged, it is rather laborious and requires devices that are not easily available. The device is kept in a hangar belonging to the Carabinieri. (HANDLE).
