Nisha Ganatra, known for her work on Hulu’s “Welcome to Chippendale’s,” has been chosen to direct “Freaky Friday 2.” The Disney sequel will see the return of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, reprising their roles from the beloved 2003 comedy.
From Successful Comedies to “Freaky Friday” Sequel
Nisha Ganatra’s directing credits include the 2020 film “The High Note” and 2019’s “Late Night.” Now, Ganatra takes the helm for the eagerly awaited “Freaky Friday 2,” following her success in the comedy genre.
Sequel Rumors Confirmed
The rumors surrounding a “Freaky Friday” sequel have finally been confirmed. In October 2022, Jamie Lee Curtis revealed on “The View” that she had already written to Disney regarding a potential sequel. Both Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have expressed their interest in reuniting for another body-swapping comedy.
Last Friday, Curtis Instagrammed a photo with Lohan, tagging Disney and captioning the snap, “DUH! FFDEUX!”
Box Office Success
When released in 2003, Disney’s “Freaky Friday” grossed an impressive $160 million worldwide. With the potential of the sequel generating equal excitement, producer Andrew Gunn, along with former Disney executive Kristin Burr, will produce the film. Disney has yet to announce the release plan, including both a date and whether it will have a theatrical or streaming debut.
Lohan and Curtis’s Recent Endeavors
Lindsay Lohan, who recently appeared in Netflix’s romantic comedy “Irish Wish” and had a cameo in the 2024 “Mean Girls” reboot, will be seen next in Netflix’s “Our Little Secret” alongside Kristin Chenoweth and Ian Harding.
Meanwhile, Jamie Lee Curtis, who won an Oscar in 2023 for her performance in “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” is set to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the popular video game “Borderlands,” alongside Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart.
