The young team of FC Frauenfeld celebrates a successful start to the season with a 1-0 away win against Red Star Zurich.

FC Frauenfeld continued its rejuvenation trend in its first championship match against Red Star Zurich. Due to the loss of the suspended veteran Kreis, there were eight players in the starting eleven who were born in 2000 or later. The match against the talented Zurich team was therefore the first real test of the season.

Coach Vintem’s team put in a strong performance in the first half. Frauenfeld dominated the game and barely allowed their opponents to develop. Despite this superiority, the FCF was unable to convert its chances into goals, and so the score remained goalless at halftime. Red Star defended compactly and made things difficult for the FCF in the final third, while Frauenfeld was hardly forced onto the defensive due to its high percentage of ball possession.

After the half-time break, the hosts found their way into the game better, which was mainly reflected in a more balanced distribution of possession. Scoring opportunities remained rare and a penalty was needed in the 80th minute to decide the game. After a foul on Kälin, Luis, who had just been substituted on, stepped up and confidently scored to make it 1-0. In the remaining minutes, FC Frauenfeld didn’t let anything go wrong and held on to their narrow lead.

With this victory, the young team got off to a successful start in the new season and was able to record its first three points. This success gives the team additional momentum for the next game next Saturday against newly promoted FC Arbon.
