Disguised as bank and software company employees, fraudsters stole money in Oberlungwitz and Glauchau.

Oberlungwitz/Glauchau.

Two cases of fraud occurred on Thursday in Oberlungwitz and Glauchau, in which the perpetrators stole a total of 15,000 euros. According to the police, a 43-year-old man from Oberlungwitz received a call on Thursday evening from an alleged bank employee who asked for two numbers from the 43-year-old. This is what he called the fraudster. When he later checked his account, he noticed two withdrawals with a total value of 10,000 euros. How the perpetrators got access to the account is not yet clear. The police have started the investigation.

Another case occurred in Glauchau. A 53-year-old received a call that afternoon from a man who posed as an employee of a software company and told her about an alleged attack on her computer. According to police, the woman gave the caller access to her computer and bank account. Later she noticed a cash withdrawal of 5,000 euros.

According to the police, there are increasing incidents in which wrong software employees call. In the case of attacks on the computer, as the fraudsters say, phone numbers appear on the lock screens that should be called in order to fix the problem. Alternatively, people are called and other demands are made to correct the problem, while money is debited from the victim’s accounts.

The police advise against giving personal and sensitive data to strangers. (scso)
