There has been a dispute over card payments across the country since early this morning. The problems affect debit, credit and check cards, said a spokesman for the German banking industry. The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is aware that there is “current disruption in card payment transactions at various financial institutions,” the authority said. “The BSI is in contact with those affected and the responsible authorities.”
Card payment breaches: problems with IT service providers
The reason for the disruption was problems at the IT service provider and related providers, said a spokesman for the German banking industry. “We are currently analyzing the facts as well as the nature and extent of the disruption together with payment system operators and providers.” Those involved worked hard to resolve the disturbance. According to the current knowledge, a cyber attack could be ruled out, he said in response to other questions.
The affected IT service provider is First Data, which belongs to the SA group Fiserv, a company spokesperson said when asked. There is currently a technical problem with some processing services. “We are working hard to resolve the issue and will notify our customers as soon as possible,” he said.
Provider Telecash reports “moderate disruption”
As Handelsblatt reports, the card reader provider Telecash is affected. Customers cannot payin Telecash customer service announced via a recorded message that there was a “moderate malfunction”. The provider has not provided any details yet.
