In the service area of the Ansbach Police Inspectorate, on Thursday, February 23, 2023 and Friday, February 24, 2023, there were attempts to defraud by contacting us via mobile phone. A 49-year-old received the message from a strange number that it would be her daughter’s new number. In the further course of communication, the supposed daughter asked for help and demanded money. The 49-year-old wanted to comply with this request and tried to transfer 1,000.00 euros to the bank account provided. However, this process failed due to a transposed number in the IBAN. A bank employee noticed the transfer process and informed the injured party that it was a scam. The transfer was ultimately prevented.
second case via SMS
In another case, a 78-year-old filed a complaint when she received a text message from an unknown number. She was also informed by her supposed daughter that she had sent the text message from a friend’s cell phone. The complainant noticed the attempted fraud and immediately filed a complaint.
Police warn of scams
The local office once again expressly refers to the fraud case. In addition, it is recommended to be suspicious of money claims via WhatsApp and Co. A personal inquiry should be made if you are contacted by an unknown cell phone number via messenger services/SMS. If you have any suspicions, please contact the police and do not make any transfers or other payments.
