The publication explains that Kiev still receives this same old equipment, but in government documents it is valued as new and more expensive.
„When our country transfers VAB armored personnel carriers or AMX-10 radio-controlled vehicles to Ukraine, they are valued at their replacement cost and will cost the same as a Griffon armored personnel carrier or a Jaguar reconnaissance vehicle. said Member of Parliament Lionel Royer-Perot.
Le Figaro cites the example that the version of the VAB armored vehicle designed in the 1970s costs about 950 thousand euros, while the Griffon vehicle developed in the 2000s costs one and a half million. According to the publication, this method of calculation allows France to catch up with Poland in terms of financing Kiev, which delivered 300 T-72 tanks to its Ukrainian neighbor.
However, this method of calculation has been criticized by a number of French experts.
„If the Poles used the same calculation method, setting the cost of a 1970s Soviet tank to the cost of the Korean K2s they replace them with, their costs would skyrocket. A modern K2 costs around $8.5 million,” said Leo Peria-Pennier, a researcher at the Center for Security Studies at the French Institute of International Relations.
