Fraud at EOPYY with medical supplies: They wrote to AMKA €13,000 for a wheelchair –

Fraud at the expense of EOPYY for prescriptions of expensive medicines and medical supplies is under the microscope of the authorities.

A patient with multiple sclerosis, who is a victim of fraud, complains to ERTNews that within a month they wrote 13,000 euros to her AMKA for a wheelchair, without her needing it. In fact, as he clarifies, the specific medical items could not be intended for a person who has her own health condition.

“About 2,132 euros electric bike for quadriplegics. I don’t have quadriplegia, if I’m telling you correctly. 3,500 electronic powered wheelchair. 2,350 euros upright. I’m standing, I don’t need anyone standing”, Georgina counted, among others.

The authorities have come under the microscope of two companies and three doctors who are allegedly involved in the fraud cases with the fake prescriptions of medical items through the EOPYY.

The two tools of EOPPY

In order to deal with the phenomenon of virtual prescriptions and the overpricing of medical supplies and medicines, the EOPPY has been strengthened with two additional tools.

“In order for a prescription to pass and be issued, it must first be checked by the relevant relevant auditors and they see a documented application to pass, otherwise it is “cut” at the level of issuing a prescription. (…) And the second tool that EOPYY has in its possession, the 22nd security valve, essentially concerns the execution of prescriptions through the use of One time password. A message will be sent to the patient who will attend to pick up the prescription, the product”, explained the Minister of Health, Mr. Aris Angelis.

Authorities’ investigations into the fraud cases are ongoing.
