Franz Wagner will register for the NBA Draft 2021 and thus leave the University of Michigan after two seasons. The German confirmed this to Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN).
Accordingly, the 19-year-old is planning to hire a player agent who will help him in the draft process. In the big board of ESPN he is currently listed as the ninth best talent of the year. In addition, he addressed himself in a letter in Players’ Tribune to his “Michigan family” and wrote: “He was a tough decision and for one reason: I love Michigan. I didn’t just want to say ‘see you soon’, I wanted to say thank you for the time of my life.
Regarding his future in the best basketball league in the world, he said: “It’s my big dream to play in the NBA and I’ve worked extremely hard for it. After talking to my coaches and my family, I know I’m ready for it am. It is the right step for me. “
The 2.06-meter forward made a big leap forward in his sophomore year at college, not just statistically, but also physically, among other things. “Physically I’ve packed a lot, I’ve gotten stronger,” said Wagner in a March SPOX interview about his development. In addition to his physique, he also worked hard on his ball handling and throwing.
Franz Wagner: Big increase in year two
That made itself felt. Wagner increased his quota of three in his sophomore season from 31.1 to 34.3 percent. In 28 games in the regular season, he put an average of 12.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.3 steals for the Wolverines to 47.7 percent from the field. In March Madness, the 1-Seed was already over in the Elite Eight. With Alba Berlin he became German runner-up in 2019 before moving to the USA.
The Berliner follows his older brother Moritz into the NBA. The latter is currently playing for Orlando Magic, and in 2018 he came into the league as the 25th pick. Franz could be picked further up, possibly even in the lottery. The draft 2021 is scheduled for July 29th. Wagner wrote about his brother with a twinkle in his eye: “If Moe can play in the league, they’ll apparently take everyone.”
