Franz Fayot at the Foreign Affairs Council in his Development training

Franz Fayot, Minister of Cooperation and Humanitarian Action, participated in the informal meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council in its Development formation, which was held by videoconference, on June 14, 2021.

On the agenda of the ministers responsible for development, in addition to cooperation with middle-income countries, there was a discussion on human development, with particular attention to global health, including vaccines and education. The concept of “human development” refers to a wide range of areas of activity of development cooperation: interventions dedicated to eradicating hunger and all forms of malnutrition, promotion of universal health coverage, universal access to quality education and training, adequate and sustainable social protection, and decent work for all in a healthy environment.

Franz Fayot said on this occasion that “our continued support for human development is all the more important as it will be to mitigate the effect of the pandemic and its socio-economic consequences. We must engage against it. continued underfunding of human development, particularly in social systems, education and health care in developing countries, in order to facilitate a rapid exit from the crisis and a vigorous recovery “. In this context, the Minister insisted on the need to continue to give priority to the needs of the most vulnerable people.

Following the ministers’ discussion, a series of four Council conclusions in the development field will be adopted today, including a text on strengthening the European financial architecture for development.
