Frans Klein starts working at Talpa a week after his departure from the NPO. The Director of Video temporarily suspended his duties last year pending the investigation into abuses The world goes on (DWDD).
Klein takes over the position of director of television from Marco Louwerens, who has decided to leave Talpa after 4.5 years. Klein will be responsible for all Talpa channels.
Last week Klein reported that he will stop at the NPO. He had previously temporarily laid down his job. He did so after a publication in de Volkskrant about the work culture DWDD.
The Investigation Committee Behavior and Culture Broadcasters (OGCO) would initially only investigate Matthijs van Nieuwkerk’s program. But that soon became an investigation into the entire public broadcaster. The NPO announced that the broadcaster is looking for a replacement for Klein.
Klein saw the past months as a ‘period of reflection’
Talpa CEO John de Mol is happy with the arrival of Klein. “He is a very experienced television director and successful channel builder. We are convinced that with him we will be able to further grow our channels in the future and build on our success.”
“This exciting new job is an unexpected turn in my career,” says Klein. “I’m really looking forward to getting back to work in my field at the great company Talpa Network, especially after the past period of reflection. I’m full of energy and ideas again.”
Louwerens in turn says that it is “time for new adventures”. It is not yet known what the next career step of the departing television director will be.
A transition period will take place at Talpa in the next two months, so that the transfer of leadership from Louwerens to Klein can proceed smoothly.
Klein since the late 1980s in public broadcasting
Klein started his career at the VARA in the late 1980s, where he held various positions. For example, he was an employee at the Classical Music department and head of Planning & Production.
Klein later became deputy director of Radio & Television (1998), director of Production & New Media (2000) and finally director of broadcasting (2004).
Klein remained the broadcaster’s boss until the merger with BNN in 2014. He then became Director of Video at NPO. In that role, Klein was ultimately responsible for the video programming of the public broadcaster.
