A lecture by veterinarian and bat expert Dr. Martin Straube
Every child now knows that bats are not vampires and do not drink blood. But that’s not true… entirely. Because in South America lives a relative of the spectacled leaf-nosed bat shown at Frankfurt Zoo: the vampire bat. And she feeds herself just like Count Dracula. Bat expert and vet Dr. Martin Straube traced it in the world’s largest wetland, the Brazilian Pantanal. In his lecture he takes us through impressive natural landscapes and to special animals. You’ll learn that being a vampire isn’t a cakewalk, it requires very special adjustments, and that the vampire itself is basically from a world that hasn’t existed for 10,000 years. The provides the right atmosphere
Venue: The visitor area next to the bat enclosure in the Grzimekhaus.
Where and when: Tuesday, March 7th, 6 p.m., access to the Rhönstraße zoo entrance.
