First leg quarter-final match Europa League Among Eintracht Frankfurt vs Barcelona ended without a winner. Both teams are equally strong with the score 1-1.
Compete at Commerzbank Arena, Friday (8/4/2022) WIB, Frankfurt and Barcelona goalless draw at the end of the first half. The deadlock was broken early in the second half after Ansgar Knauff brought Frankfurt winning first, before Barca equalized the score through Ferran Torres.
Frankfurt ended the game with 10 men after Tuta received a second yellow card (red card) in the 78th minute. However, Frankfurt defended so solidly that Barcelona could not take advantage of the situation.
Thus, Frankfurt and Barcelona are both still likely to qualify for the semifinals. Barcelona will host the second leg which will be held at Camp Nou, a week away.
The course of the match
Barcelona spread threats when the game has been running for three minutes. Ferran Torres fired a powerful long-range effort into the top corner of the Frankfurt goal, Kevin Trapp making an equally fine save.
Three minutes later, Frankfurt’s counter-attack came close to producing the opener. Teaming up with Lindstrom, Sow continued with a first-time strike. The ball is just wide.
After that Barcelona was more dominant. But Barca’s attacks failed in the final third because of Frankfurt’s solid defense.
Frankfurt was awarded a penalty in the 37th minute. Sergio Busquets was considered to have violated Borre when he was about to hit the rebound after being pushed over by Marc-Andre ter Stegen. However, after the referee checked using VAR, the penalty was overturned as Busquets appeared to have touched the ball first.
The first half ended. 0-0 score persisted.
Frankfurt started the second half brilliantly. In the 48th minute, Frankfurt opened the scoring to beat Barcelona 1-0.
Starting from a corner kick on the right wing, Eric Garcia headed the ball outside the penalty box. Ansgar Knauff once controlled the ball then volleyed from area D into the top corner of Ter Stegen’s goal.
After 18 minutes, Barcelona’s reply was finally created. Ferran Torres changed the score to 1-1.
Ousmane Dembele’s movement was continued with a one-two collaboration between Torres and Frenkie de Jong. Torres completed De Jong’s header with a low shot from the middle of the penalty box to the bottom corner of the Frankfurt goal.
Frankfurt must play with 10 men in the 78th minute. Tuta had to leave the playing area after receiving a second yellow card for stepping on Pedri.
Barcelona almost locked Frankfurt after winning the number of players. However, no additional goals were created in the rest of the match so the 1-1 score remained until the game broke up.
