Frankfurt. The Frankfurt trade fair company is gradually recovering from the slump in sales of the pandemic years. Sales of around 600 million euros are expected for the current financial year, said trade fair boss Wolfgang Marzin on Thursday in Frankfurt. With a total of 340 events again a positive operating result this year be reached. “This puts Messe Frankfurt back in the top league in global competition,” stressed Marzin. Since 2020, the trade fair company has made losses for three years in a row due to canceled events. However, the trade fair is still a long way from the high revenues of the pre-Corona years: in 2019 the company generated sales of around 736 million euros. According to the trade fair, sales in the past financial year were EUR 454.2 million (2021: EUR 153.8 million). The bottom line loss in 2022 was 25.7 million euros.
In order to further strengthen growth, the company, which is supported by the city of Frankfurt and the state of Hesse, relies on sustainability and digitization. “With large-scale digitization programs in the group of companies, we will continue to modernize the entire group and make it fit for the future”, Marzin announced. In addition, activities abroad are to be expanded again. Around 20 premiere events are planned between 2023 and 2025. (dpa)
